There are now just a few weeks to go until the start of our summer telephone campaign when our team of current Churchill students hope to share the latest news about life at Churchill today, including their own experiences of student life both in and out of lockdown.

As always, the telephone campaign provides our alumni and callers with an enjoyable opportunity to share experiences of Churchill. It also enables us to hear what our alumni have gone on to do after leaving College. This year’s team of student callers is made up of ten undergraduates and three postgraduates and you can read all about them below. Our student callers will also be seeking support for the key projects in the College’s ongoing Think Forward campaign which was launched last year to help mark the 60th anniversary of the College receiving its Royal Charter. The Think Forward campaign is centred on the College’s endowment and its people. It aims to boost the College’s long-term financial sustainability to face the scientific, technological, social-economic and political challenges of the next decades and to ensure future generations of students can thrive.

‘The Calling Campaign was an unforgettable experience. I loved talking to alumni and connecting with them. It was wonderful to listen to their stories and hear about where life took them after they graduated. I am still in touch with some of the alumni I spoke to today. I was so touched by the generosity of the alumni and the affinity they have with the College. I am already looking forward to my call in a few years time!’

Central to the current campaign is the need to raise funds for all of our Student Support funds, including funding for means-tested bursaries and hardship funds, as the economic effects of the Coronavirus pandemic are felt. Rising demand and the added impact of the Covid-19 crisis on student wellbeing has also prompted the creation of a dedicated Student Wellbeing and Mental Health Fund. Our postgraduates also need support in the face of rising costs and relentess cuts to available funding.

Our plans to gather and celebrate the College’s anniversary may have been stalled by the pandemic, but you are still invited to find out more about the different projects seeking support, and to delve into the history of the College by exploring our interactive timeline.

Finally, we always say that every gift makes a difference, no matter how small, but an alumnus has maximised the impact of supporting this telephone campaign by generously pledging to double the first £40,000 raised.
